THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF RISC OS

Alignment="STATION!"

EASY LINKS

Plenty of resources can be found via Acornsearch. And of course you can get the bizarreness of an antialiased RO3.7, 3.1 or 4 on your desktop via emulation.

SPECIAL SURPRISE!

Digging out old files, found the following:

Oh sadly, Acorn Computers departed those verdant pastures known as the IT market. It was a dark time in the 20th Century, where the glimmer of true easy access low power computing seemed far off. So...

Thank you for the Set Top Box. Thank you for Reduced Instruction Set Computers and processors. Thank you for being radical. Thank you for a drag, drop and menu system that you could use anywhere in the desktop. Thank you for having embarrassingly silly but well executed prototypes of technology that can still be described today as "mental". (a toaster in your computer - were they predicting their future in reverse?). Thank you for task windows, for they are verily the height of cool CLI. Thank you for creating generations of young and slightly older UK programmers. Thank you for shift double clicking and easily understood file formats. And most of all, thank you for putting the 64K of vector manipulating loveliness that was Acorn !Draw into ROM. Oh, yeah, thank you for ARM and the new mobile revolution.

FIVE STORY LINES

DEVIL'S SHOES

A moving tale of a young man's dream of making a pair of automated dancing shoes in order to gain acceptance among his Ministry going friends. Things turn sour when he fails to make a half size. (Straight to bargain bin.)

SPILLING BLOODY MURDER

A spilt pint in the Broken Axe leads to bloody financial warfare as two city brokers gradually tear apart the virtual trading floors of London and partake in highly slanderous Instant Messenger conversations.

WINGS OF PI

A butterfly overdoses on nectar and discovers the secrets of the universe

PIE

A Porn Baron tries to move into the 21st century with hilarious results. Tricky in that the PB has to appeal to the reader.

EXPECT MORE

EARTH BOUND

Something by Philip K. Dick dealing with robotic/preprogrammed intelligences, dubious governmental systems and a cyborg intelligence/individual who encompasses both. The intelligence/individual is only recognised when the hero/heroine (a conformist engineer close to a nervous breakdown) tries to make a conversion from euros to sterling and the automated robotic bank teller gets confused. (Movie rights sold.)

ESSENTIAL LINKS       v0.12

Fontography and the working person - there are people with obsessions that just confuse the common fool. And then there's beauty... and bad grammar. These people made a promise. Damned if they'll tell us what it is though. And these people just make chocolate. Alternative lifestyles - some mothers had 'em.

If you require further information or guidance, tell me why.
